The assessment of Re-Analysis ERA40 Ozone Part II : comparison with the MOZAIC project
Abstract
The global Ozone distribution from the European Re-Analysis archive (ERA40) is compared with high resolution AIRBUS data collected during the MOZAIC programme flights for the period 1994-1997. The Ozone measurements from the MOZAIC programme provide a unique opportunity to assess the ERA40 Global Ozone because the MOZAIC database represents independent observations. Initially, an interpolation method is established in order to refer the ERA40 gridded data to the MOZAIC positions. In general, ERA40 seems to be in good agreement with MOZAIC, particularly along some specific air routes, such as over Western Europe, Northern America and the busy North Atlantic air corridor, which is most frequently monitored by MOZAIC.
