Collisions in kinetic simulations of the solar wind
Abstract
Based on results from steady state and self consistent kinetic simulations of the solar wind we shall address the question of the role of Coulomb collisions in the acceleration of the wind. One particularly interesting finding of our simulations is that the electron heat flux near the sonic point appears to be substantially stronger than the value predicted by the classical Spitzer-Härm equation even when the Knudsen number near the sonic point is substantially smaller than unity.
