Possibilities to represent Groundwater - Suface Water - Interactions by using a coupled modelling Approach
Abstract
An approach is presented for coupling the deterministic hydrological catchment-based model WASIM-ETH-I (Schulla, 1997; Schulla &Jasper, 1999), based on conceptual as well as physically based assumptions, with the groundwater-model MODFLOW-96 (Harbaugh &McDonald 1996a, 1996b) respectively Processing MODFLOW - PMWIN (Chiang &Kinzelbach, 1993, 1994, 1998, 2001). It is the purpose of this study to let the model reflect typical hydrological properties of lowland-catchments like the interaction between groundwater and surface water or runoff-generation on saturated soil. Development and test of the coupled models are conducted for the catchments 'Große Grabenniederung' and 'Guelper Insel' in the 'Lower Havel Region' of North-East-Germany. Results are shown for fully-coupled models as well as for one-way coupling.
