The measured wind resource at Arklow Bank
Abstract
A weather monitoring mast has been in operation at Arklow Bank, in the Irish Sea eight kilometres off the east coast of Ireland, since February 2001. Wind speed and direction are monitored at various heights up to 42.5 metres above mean sea level. Some results of an analysis of the data collected are presented here. Topics addressed include the sectoral distributions of frequency and mean windspeed, the vertical profile of windspeed (analysis of measured data and extrapolation to hub height), and turbulence intensity (its variation with sector, windspeed and height).
