The International Heliophysical Year
Abstract
The previous International Geophysical Year in 1957 provided a great stimulus for international cooperation in scientific research. It also served to inspire a new generation of scientists. With our current technology, international cooperation in scientific research is now a normal occurrence. This technology offers us the opportunity to further expand our cooperation and advancement. Human expansion into the Heliosphere, together with space based assets provided by the various national and international space agencies, and advanced ground based assets to study the heliosphere, make this an exciting focus for international cooperation and coordination. This talk will present some ideas on how the international scientific community can work together during the IHY to enhance our research on the Heliosphere and Sun/Earth system.
