A Two-Level Radiative and Collisional Loss Model Relevant to Stored Ion Spectroscopy.
Abstract
We determined analytical solutions to the coupled Ricatti Equations associated with the radiative and collisional losses of ion populations that can exist in either of two levels. In the simplified model, the upper-level population can radiatively decay to the lower-level, be lost through collisions with a buffer gas, or undergo ion pair losses via Coulomb Collisions. Loss mechanisms for the lower-level population include ion-pair and ion-neutral collisional losses. This two-level model may help explain systematic uncertainties associated with some radiative lifetime measurements(A. G. Calamai and C. E. Johnson, Phys. Rev. A 45), 7792, (1992). of intermediately charged ions. The analytical solutions will be presented and discussed.
