An experimental investigation of the coherence properties of light scattered from optical molasses
Abstract
We have measured the intensity correlations in the light scattered from a cloud of cold, trapped atoms. These correlations may help us sensitively detect the presence of radiation trapping. Progress toward measuring small amounts of radiation trapping in cold atom samples will be presented. This may have important implications in the context of coherently prepared optically thick atomic samples for quantum computational experiments.
