Temperature-dependent MFM study of magnetic domains in LSMO CMR films
Abstract
Ambient observation of magnetic domain structures in LaSrMnO films by magnetic force microscopy (MFM) have been previously reported. The domain structures were attributed to the growth of these films on lattice-mismatched substrates such as LaAlO_3, which induces in-plane compressive stresses on the films. The resulting out-of-plane tensile stresses create an easy magnetic axis normal to the film surface. Maze-like domain structures, with separations dependent on film thickness, were only observed. The development of in-situ sample heating capabilities has made it possible to study the temperature dependence of the domain structure as the sample is cooled or heated around the critical temperature. Results from MFM measurements of temperature-dependent magnetization will be presented to show the nucleation of magnetic domains in these films.
