Search for Global Properties of Tokamak Turbulence
Abstract
In our previous work we applied the new method for extracting symbolic cycles to the analysis of turbulent fluctuations measured in water flow in a pipe[1]. Even though the fluctuations in the bulk of the water and near the wall of the pipe appear to be very different, the majority of the most stable cycles extracted from the data are identical. This appears to be the first demonstration of global properties of hydrodynamic turbulence. In the present paper we are applying the same technique for the analysis of tokamak turbulence. Tokamak plasma is divided into 5 regions: 1) center, 2) bulk, 3) edge, 4) near SOL, and 5) far SOL. We have already demonstrated that symbolic cycles that we extract from different physical quantities are invariant characteristics of dynamics. Thus we can use different diagnostics in the five regions and do a comparative study of the cycle distributions. [1] M.
