Self-consistent coupling of stimulated Brillouin scattering with hydrodynamics
Abstract
Modeling stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) in a long scale length plasma is very demanding computationally in multidimensional mm-size plasmas. In order to account for the nonlinear processes developing in large-scale plasmas under the influence of smoothed laser beams, we have derived equations based upon the decomposition (1) in long and short-wavelength components of the hydrodynamic variables and (2) in incident and scattered light components. These equations make it possible to describe the self-consistent coupling between the plasma hydrodynamics, SBS, the generation of harmonics and sub-harmonics of the excited ion acoustic wave. We have implemented this set of equations in the numerical AMR platform HERA and we have investigated the nonlinear behavior of SBS in the case of a bidimensional inhomogeneous flowing plasma.
