First Measurements of C_z' and C_x' for K^+ Λ and K^+ Σ ^rc photoproduction using CLAS at Jefferson Lab
Abstract
Using a circularly polarized tagged photon beam at Jefferson Lab, the CLAS detector has collected data that will produce the first measurements of C_z' and C_x' for γ ( p,K^+ )Y for Λ and Σ ^rc. C_z' and C_x' are observables that characterize the beam-hyperon recoil polarization asymmetry parallel and perpendicular to the hyperon's momentum in the production plane of the meson for incident photons of well-defined helicity. Measurement of five double polarization observables is necessary for complete uncoupling of the complex amplitudes that are used to describe kaon photoproduction [1]. Two of these observables, C_z' and C_x', are measured in this analysis for the first time in K^+ Λ and K^+ Σ ^rc photoproduction. Initial results for incident photon energy up to 3.1 GeV will be presented and discussed in light of various theoretical models. 1. Barker, Donnachie, and Storrow, Nucl. Phys.
