Systematic Studies in the emiT Time Reversal Violation Experiment
Abstract
The emiT experiment tests time reversal symmetry in the beta decay of polarized free neutrons by precisely measuring the T-odd triple correlation hatσ_not p_e×p_ν, where hatσ and p represent the neutron spin and decay product momenta, respectively. The experiment is in the process of acquiring data from its second run, which should ultimately produce a new limit on the D coefficient of approximately 2×10-4. This result would significantly improve the current limit, an important step in further constraining extensions to the Standard Model. The performance of the apparatus will be presented as well as a preliminary analysis of some of the systematic effects in the data.
