Progress Toward a Cold Atom Fountain Electron Electric Dipole Moment Experiment
Abstract
We describe our progress in developing a sensitive electron electric dipole moment (EDM) experiment using a cesium cold atom fountain. High sensitivity to an EDM comes from long interaction times, multiple quantum transitions, and electrostatic focusing. Insensitivity to systematic effects comes from eliminating static magnetic fields, the slow atoms, and the fountain geometry. A microgravity version of the experiment will bring further improvements in sensitivity and systematic rejection.
