Effects of atom-atom scattering on coherent photoassociation of an atomic BEC
Abstract
We examine the zero-mode equations of the standard theory of photo-association of a BEC, where we incorporate the atom-atom interactions in terms of the effective scattering length, a. We show that the zero-mode systems with a neq 0 have fundamentally different properties from the system in which a=0. In the case when a=0 the zero-mode system has two eigenstates, the ground state and the twin state, which exist in the whole parameter space. However, when a neq 0 one of the eigenstates becomes localized in the parameter space, thus creating the possibility of a parametric excitation.
