Non-Universal Drop Break-Up
Abstract
Experiment, simulation and theory show the break-up of a low-viscosity drop inside an extremely viscous exterior produces an unexpected and exceptional form of singularity, one with linear and non-universal dynamics. In contrast with all previous studies, diferent initial and boundary conditions lead to different asymptotic break-up profiles for drop break-up when the interior viscosity is negligible. A second regime of break-up arises when the interior viscosity is small but not negligible.
