R-matrix analysis of N-N scattering, including n+p capture
Abstract
We report a charge-independent R-matrix analysis of the nucleon-nucleon system at laboratory energies up to 30 MeV, which also includes data for n+p capture and γ+d photodisintegration. The treatment of photon channels in the analysis uses an approach that is new to R-matrix theory. The results for the n+p capture cross section are in good agreement with recent direct measurements and with microscopic calculations that use modern N-N potentials and meson-exchange-current corrections. The rates obtained from the analysis for this important Big Bang nucleosynthesis process are thus determined with much smaller uncertainties than before.
