High-energy Phenomena in the Universe from Recent Chandra and XMM-Newton Observations
Abstract
The advent of the Chandra and XMM-Newton X-ray Observatories, with complementary capabilities, has opened a new window to study high-energy emission from extragalactic sources. Thanks to the unprecedented angular resolution provided by Chandra and the high throughput afforded by XMM-Newton, detailed imaging spectroscopy of relatively faint X-ray sources is now possible. In this talk, I will review recent discoveries from the two Observatories, with particular emphasis on the study of black holes in galaxies, and related phenomena.
