The impact of TeV nucleus-nucleus simulations on JACEE results
Abstract
The Monte Carlo simulations used by the JACEE experiment to model detector response are compared with new simulations based on the widely accepted programs GEANT and DPMJET. The new simulations indicate that a higher fraction of energy is channeled to the electromagnetic portion of a hadronic cascade than previously expected. JACEE's energy measurements should therefore be revised downward by 11%, 8%, 10%, and 16% for protons, helium, carbon, and magnesium, respectively. These changes are small compared to the uncertainty in the experiment.
