Study of Cyclability Enhanced by Nitrogen Doping for Digital Versatile Disk-Random Access Memory Media
Abstract
A nitrogen-doping process is commonly applied to improve the cyclability of phase change optical disks, but it is still difficult to attain the required number of overwrite cycles of 106 for digital versatile disk-random access memory (DVD-RAM) disks. In this study, we used a nitrogen doping process to prepare 2.6 GB DVD-RAM disks and successfully achieved more than 106 overwrite cycles of solely using by a four layer structure. The cyclability was found to increase with increasing nitrogen content in the N2/Ar sputtering gas flow then decrease with a further increase in the nitrogen content. Nucleation theory is used to explain the phenomena.
