The results of Astro-HS video observation network
Abstract
A meteor observation network using 40 sets of high-speed CCD video cameras was created to observe the Leonid meteor shower. The baseline of this network is about 2000 km, and covers several of the Japanese Islands. These camera's are equipped with a f=6mm F=0.8 lenses, specifically targeted at relatively bright meteors. Over 100,000 meteors had been caught. At the predicted Leonid storm maximum, the mean number of meteors recorded by video was about 15 in 1 minute. Moreover, the population index at this time was calculated to be about r = N(m+1)/N(m) = 2.024. We find that this index changes over in several minutes. We will discuss the detailed structure of the Leonid dust tube. This work has been performed as part of the "Astro-classroom for high school students (Astro-HS)".
