Net Photochemical Production of Ozone In The Free Troposphere Over Europe
Abstract
A global three-dimensional chemical transport model (CTM), TOMCAT, will be com- pared to measurements from two aircraft campaigns which took place over Europe during 2000. The model will then be used to diagnose the contribution of photochem- istry to the ozone budget of the free troposphere over Europe.
TOMCAT will be integrated for the year 2000. A flight-by-flight comparison as well as a more quantatative comparison between the model and measurements for the two campaign periods will be presented and discussed. Ozone production rates calculated along the flight tracks using modelled concentrations of CH3O2, HO2, and NO will be compared to the rates derived from the measured concentrations. A comparison of ozone loss rates will also be presented. The model will then be used to quantify net ozone production rates over the entire free troposphere over Europe and a comparison between western and central Europe during May and August 2000 will be discussed.- Publication:
