Study of effect of the breakup on the fusion cross section of the systems 6,7Li + 59Co
Abstract
In order to study the possible effect of the breakup on the fusion cross section, ^6,7Li+^59Co fusion reactions were investigated using the Garel+ array at the Vivitron Laboratory-Strasbourg using the γ-spectroscopy method. Excitation functions from E_lab=11 MeV to 26 MeV were obtained for both systems from the measurement of all observed individual decay channels of the Compound Nucleus. The same reactions have been investigated at the Universtity of São Paulo Pelletron Laboratory (at 14 MeV < E_lab < 24 MeV) using two Compton suppressed Ge detectors. The resulting excitation functions for the fusion cross sections are obtained through the sum of the data for all the germanium Compton suppressed detectors. Due to the fact that the Coulomb barrier difference between the two entrance channels is very small, and in order to minimize the uncertainties observed in the absolute cross sections we calculate the ratio [R=σ(^6Li+^59Co)/σ(^7Li+^59Co)] as a function of the bombarding energy. We observe that, at sub-barrier energies a slight enhancement of the ^6Li+^59Co fusion cross section is observed whereas, at energies above the barrier, where incomplete fusion processes may be present, the ^6Li+^59Co fusion cross section seems to be slightly inhibited in agreement with figure 2 extracted from ref [1]. Nevertheless, calcutions are being perfomed in order to better quantify this possible inhibition. [1] A. Szanto de Toledo, Nuclear Physics A 679, 175 (2000)
