High Spin States in ^237Np and ^241Am
Abstract
The technique of "unsafe" Coulomb excitation was used to study collective excitations in ^237Np, ^241Am and their immediate neighbors. The measurements employed ^209Bi beams at energies ~ 15% above the Coulomb barrier and took advantage of the resolving power of Gammasphere. The level schemes of all nuclei were considerably extended. The data on the odd-proton nuclei provide information on the behavior with frequency of orbitals responsible for various alignments in the even-even neighbors. The results will be compared with cranked shell model calculations. This work was supported by the U. S. Department of Energy, Nuclear Physics Division, under Contract Nos. W-31-109-ENG-38.
