Evidence of Fine Structure α peaks in ^174,176Au
Abstract
The region near the proton drip-line and Z = 82 shell gap has been a unique source of interest. Alpha decays from ground and isomeric states can provide detailed nuclear structure information on the single-particle levels of the neutron deficient nuclei. The α decay of odd-odd ^174,176Au nuclei were studied following the ^92Mo (^84Sr,pn) and the ^94Mo (^84Sr,pn) reactions, respectively. Gammasphere was used in conjunction with the Fragment Mass Analyzer (FMA) and the Double-Sided Silicon Detector (DSSD) to associate the A = 174 and 176 recoils with emitted γ and α rays. In addition, an array of four Ge detectors and a Low Energy Photon Spectrometer (LEPS) surrounding the DSSD was used for elucidating fine stucture α peaks of these odd-odd gold nuclei. Two and three new α decay peaks were found in ^174Au and ^176Au, respectively. Spin and configuration assigments for the ground and isomeric states of these odd-odd gold will be discussed.
