Results from the Chandra Deep Survey of the Hubble Deep Field North Area
Abstract
Chandra has performed a 1~Ms survey centered on the Hubble Deep Field North (HDF-N), detecting more than 350 X-ray sources. We will present results from the survey including: The X-ray source content of the HDF-N. X-ray constraints on microJansky radio sources, SCUBA sources, ISO-CAM sources, very red objects, and AGN candidates. Studies of low X-ray luminosity, optically bright ``normal'' galaxies. Constraints on the nature of the optically faint X-ray source population. Follow-up optical and near-infrared spectroscopy and imaging. X-ray number counts, spectroscopic and variability analyses. X-ray detections of high-redshift and unusual objects. Clusters, groups, and diffuse X-ray emission in our field. Stacking analyses probing sources too faint to be individually detected, such as the X-ray binary populations of moderate redshift galaxies. We will also discuss future plans as well as implications for upcoming missions such as SIRTF, Constellation-X, and XEUS.
