Surface Brightness and Color Profiles of Galaxies in the Hubble Deep Field
Abstract
We fit elliptical isophotes to the Hubble Deep Field WFPC2 and NICMOS data to study the rest frame optical colors and surface brightness profiles of 33 galaxies with 0.5 <= z <= 1.3 and 50 galaxies with 2.0 <= z <= 3.5. We find evidence of evolution in both the surface brightness and color profiles of the galaxies. Our results indicate that at earlier epochs, galaxies are not only more disk-like, but their star formation regions may be more centrally concentrated than they are today.
