Lattice Model Results for a Quantum Wire with a Weak Junction
Abstract
As a simple model for a weak junction in a quantum wire, we study the spin-1/2 Heisenberg quantum spin chain with a weak bond. Extensive numerical computations, using density-matrix renormalization (DMRG) and quantum Monte- Carlo (QMC) algorithms, are matched with exact results for the limiting cases of the homogeneous and the open chains. We present results for the ground state enrergies, the spin stiffness, and various correlation functions and susceptibilities.
