Determination of easy axis in a Chemical Ferromagnet using Results of Muon Spin Rotation Measurements
Abstract
In earlier work,(Jeong, et al., Bull. Am. Phy. Soc. 45), No. 1, 1039 (2000) we have studied the trapping of muon and muonium in the chemical ferromagnet 4-(p-Chlorobenzylideneamino)-TEMPO using the Hartree-Fock Cluster procedure and the muon hyperfine tensors at the trapping sites to evaluate the hyperfine fields expected there. We have now calculated the vibrationally averaged values of the hyperfine tensor components, and found them to decrease by only 3 to 4 percent due to the vibrational effect and not affect the conclusion1 that the trapped singlet muonium near the oxygen and the muon near the chlorine are the ones responsible for the observed μSR frequencies and that the direction of the easy axis, obtained by comparing the predicted hyperfine fields with experiment, is close to (010) in the monoclinic lattice. The reasons for the small vibrational effect as compared to that in other solid state systems will be discussed.
