Caloric curve for 8 GeV/c negative pion and antiproton on gold reactions
Abstract
One of the most transparent systems to study the thermodynamic properties of hot nuclei is hadron-induced multifragmentation. The reaction of 8 GeV/c antiproton and pion on gold was studied at the Brookhaven AGS accelerator using the Indiana Silicon Sphere (ISiS) 4P detector array to detect charged particles. The relationship between the temperature and the excitation energy of the hot system was studied. The results of the caloric curves generated from two different methods, double-isotope ratios and slope parameters, will be presented along with the comparison to other experimental caloric curves and predictions from the SMM model. *Work supported by the US DOE, NSF, the Welch Foundation and NSERC of Canada
