Nuclear temperature of 8 GeV/c negative pion and anti-proton on gold reactions
Abstract
The E900 experiment was performed at the Brookhaven AGS accelerator to study the reaction of 8 GeV/c antiprotons and negative pions on gold with the Indiana Silicon Sphere (ISiS) 4/pi detector array. This is an excellent system for studying the thermodynamic properties of hot nuclei since the hadrons rapidly heat the target nucleus with little compression. The excitation energies and temperatures of the system were calculated to construct the heating curves. Two nuclear thermometers, double isotope ratio and slope parameter, were used. The results of the heating curves from the two thermometers will be presented along with comparison to the SMM model. * Work supported by the US DOE and NSF and the Welch Foundation and the NSERC of Canada
