International Research Projects at the Peak Terskol Observatory: Current Results and Perspectives
Abstract
Since a little more than five years space research of the International Centre for Astronomical, Medical and Ecological Research (ICAMER) at the Peak Terskol Observatory located in the Northern Caucasus at an altitude of 3100m is carried out in broad international cooperation. That allows to use more effectively advantages of an excellent astronomical sky and the instrumental facilities of the Observatory. Since 1996 was begun a fruitful cooperation with the Max-Planck-Institut für Aeronomie (MPAE), concerning the common use of the Two Channel Focal Reducer owned by the MPAE at the 2 m-RCC telescope. Excellent observations of many solar objects have been obtained in 1996-2000. After putting into operation in 1998 of the 3-camera spectrograph with spectral resolution up to 200,000 the Peak Terskol Observatory is expanding its activities in many fields of research, one of that is the study of spectra of solar analog stars. By the end of 1990th ICAMER initiated the establishment of the International Synchronous Network of Optical Telescopes, which involves several European telescopes ranging from 0.6 m to 2.0 m in diameter. Such a network is now being developed. It gives a greater chance to study microvariability of stars. This network can be used also for transient object observations, for which many telescopes located in various places around the world are needed. There are more objects in the Universe, which we can fruitfully explore by internationally cooperative observations dots
