Search for a quantum phase transition in U(Pt 1- xPd x) 3
Abstract
Pd in U( Pt1-x Pdx) 3 suppresses the superconducting Tc to 0 K at xc ≃ 0.007 and induces a conventional AFM state for x⩾ xc. The resistivity below 1 K for x⩽0.02 shows a deviation from Fermi liquid behavior described by ρ( T)= ρ0+ ATα; α varies from 2 for x=0 to 1.6 for x≃ xc. This suggests that a quantum phase transition (QPT) exists near xc. Transport for a sample with x=0.004< xc has a pressure-independent exponent α=1.77, suggesting that if a QPT exists it may be associated with the magnetic transition.
