The specifics of crystal growing in non-conservative systems
Abstract
The method of melt feeding of the initial raw material (Goriletsky et al., J. Crystal Growth 52 (2) (1981) 509) is used for automated pulling of large NaI(Tl) and CsI(Tl) scintillation crystals. The mass transfer of the impurity component from the melt to the cold unit wall is a factor destabilizing the process. It has been shown that the evaporation process in such non-conservative systems may be described analytically and this offers an additional possibility to control the impurity composition of crystals produced and the whole crystallization process.
