Susceptibility and Transport Studies of RuSr_2GdCu_2O_8-δ (Ru-1212)
Abstract
We present a transport and ac susceptibility study on ceramic samples of the magnetic superconductor RuSr_2GdCu_2O_8-δ (Ru-1212). We find that a \chi_AC diamagnetic shielding signal (with H_AC=10 Oe), which yields a zero DC-field Tc of 26K, is suppressed by an applied DC field of order 10-2T. In higher DC field, however, a diamagnetic signal reemerges, with Tc above 5T exceeding 20K. This apparent reentrant superconducting behavior may be associated with an external field polarization (cancellation) of an internal field (60T at the Ru nucleus) provided by quasi-ferromagnetic misalignment of the otherwise antiferromagnetically ordered Ru-O layers, although other scenarios have been proposed. Extensive sample preparation conditions will be presented.
