Photoproduction of Σ^+ Hyperons
Abstract
We have measured the photoproduction reaction γ p arrow K^0 Σ^+ using tagged photons in the energy range from threshold (1.05 GeV) to 2.4 GeV. This measurement increases the world published data sample (R. Erbe et al.(ABBHHM Collaboration), Phys. Rev. 188, 2060 (1969).) for this process by more than two orders of magnitude. Data were taken in Hall B at Jefferson Lab using photons incident on a liquid hydrogen target, with all the outgoing charged particles detected by the CLAS spectrometer. The reaction was observed in the two major decay channels Σ^+ arrow p π^0and Σ^+ arrow n π^+, with kaons identified using the π^+ and π^- from the K^0S decay. Energy and angular distributions will be presented.
