Intermediate-energy Coulomb excitation of the odd neutron-rich isotopes ^31,33Mg and ^34,35Al
Abstract
Beams of the neutron-rich radioactive isotopes ^31,33Mg and ^34,35Al have been produced by fragmentation of a ^48Ca primary beam at 80 MeV/nucleon. The energies and excitation cross sections to the lowest excited states were measured via intermediate-energy Coulomb excitation on a ^197Au target. The experimental results suggest a large degree of collectivity in ^33Mg and moderate collectivity in ^31Mg and ^34,35Al. This is in agreement with ^33Mg being a member of the ``island of inversion" around ^32Mg.
