Turbulence simulations: Implications for meteor science
Abstract
Turbulence in the mesosphere and lower thermosphere region is being investigated using direct numerical simulation (DNS) techniques. The implications for meteor science include the modeling of turbulent structures and their influence on winds and diffusion processes at meteor ablation altitudes. Results of our current simulations will be presented, as well as an overview of upcoming new simulations. In addition, the potential of the Arctic Lidar Observatory for Middle Atmosphere Research (ALOMAR) sodium lidar system for meteor observations will be introduced.
