Properties of lithium metatitanate pebbles produced by a wet process

Lithium metatitanate (Li ₂TiO ₃) is considered as one of the candidate materials for the ceramic breeder in both the ITER Breeding Blanket and the European Helium Cooled Pebble-Bed Blanket for DEMO. A wet process based on powder-gelation for the manufacture of Li ₂TiO ₃-pebbles is described. Pebble characteristics and its basic properties are given along with results of out-of-pile tritium release experiments.
