Multi-Beam VISARs for Simultaneous Velocity vs. Time Measurements
Abstract
After reviewing some background material, the ideas for a new multi-beam VISAR design involving fiber optics and imaging techniques are presented. The new ideas have been implemented using an existing VISAR design, as far as possible, but substantial changes were also required. The design changes not only achieve the multi-beam VISAR, but also further improve the exceptional stability of the original Valyn VISAR's interferometer alignment. Multi-beam VISARs capable of simultaneously measuring velocities at up to seven points have been made. The results of a four-beam VISAR measurement are presented, and the prospects for future multi-beam VISAR capabilities are discussed.
