Sensitivity of NIF Ignition Target Performance to Central DT Gas Density
Abstract
Simulations have been done to study the Rayleigh-Taylor instability growth and the sensitivity to long wavelength initial asphericity for a polyimide NIF ignition target with two different initial gas densities in the central DT sphere. The gas density depends on the temperature of the fuel before the shot, and the quality of the DT ice surface is likely to depend on temperature. This talk describes how the specifications for target fabrication depend on the gas density.
