A comparison of the multifragmentation systematics in three different systems: 1 AGeV Au + C, 1 AGeV La + C and 1 AGeV Kr + C
Abstract
General systematics of the fragment distributions resulting from the multifragmentation of three differnt systems is presented. The EOS experiment allowed for complete charge reconstruction on an event by event basis of the fragment distributions resulting from the collision of 1 AGeV gold, lanthanum and krypton projectiles with a carbon target. The complete fragment distributions resulting from the breakup of excited lanthanum and krypton nuclei are examined for statistical features that have already been observed in the multifragmentation of an excited gold nucleus and which are consistent with a liquid-gas phase transition. The presence or absence of such features will add insight to the mechanism responsible for the production of intermediate mass fragments resulting from the breakup of excited nuclei.
