Parallel implementation of a 3D baroclinic hydrodynamic model of the southern North Sea
Abstract
A three dimensional shelf sea model has been recoded for use on massively parallel machines, to allow further model development, including increased grid resolution, an increase in grid coverage, and coupling to an ecosystem model. We describe the strategies adopted in the parallel implementation, and show performance results for a Cray T3D machine. A detailed analysis of the model performance is carried out, and used to clarify the computing requirements for further model developments.
