Random Polyelectroltye Polymers in Mixed Solvents
Abstract
Random copolymers of sulfonated styrene thin films were adsorbed on Si wafers and exposed to mixtures of water and organic solvents. The degree of swelling in the organic solvents decreased with increasing sulfonation while the opposite effect was observe d for pure water. Large swelling was observed in all films in the presence of the mixed solvents indicating that the polymers may locally compatiblize the the highly immiscible liquids.
