Systematic Study of Planar Thin Film YBa_2Cu_3O_7-δ Josephson Devices
Abstract
We have performed a systematic study of planar thin film YBCO weak links fabricated using nanolithography and a conventional 200 keV ion implanter. The samples showed clear d.c. and a.c. Josephson effects. Supercurrent modulation of up to 65% of the maximum Ic at 77 K was observed for small applied magnetic fields. Irradiation of a sample with microwaves modulated Ic with classical Bessel function envelopes for the first few Shapiro steps. Measurement of the transport across the weak links in the normal state and of the Ic as a function of temperature showed consistent trends associated with controlled variation of the weak link length and with the chosen fluence of the ion beam. We also have investigated long term stability of the junctions and the uniformity of sets of identically prepared junctions on a single substrate.
