Inverse Current Perpendicular (CPP) Magnetoresistance (MR) in [Ni_95Cr_5/Cu/Ni_86Fe_14/Cu] Multilayers
Abstract
Vouille et al.(C. Vouille et al., J. Appl. Phys. 81, 4573 (1997).) measured the CPP-MR in [Ni_95Cr_5/Cu/Co/Cu] multilayers, using thin granular Co for its high coercive field. Their CPP-MRs reversed from 'normal' (lowest resistance at high field), to 'inverse' (highest resistance at high field), when the NiCr became thick enough so its negative bulk spin-anisotropy parameter β dominated the CPP-MR. They derived β = -0.09, much less than the range β = -(0.38-0.67) in alloy tables( I.A. Campbell and A. Fert, Ferromagnetic Materials, Vol. 3, E.P. Wohlfarth Ed., North Holland, 1982, Pg. 747.). To see if this difference is real, or an artifact due to use of inappropriate parameters for granular Co, we are measuring the CPP-MR in a better understood system: [Ni_95Cr_5/Cu/Ni_86Fe_14/Cu]. We confirm the normal to inverse CPP-MR transition, and will present a new estimate of β.
