Attenuation Effects of the LAD Covering Material on CGRO
Abstract
Measurements by the Large Area Detectors (LADs) onboard the Compton Gamma-Ray Observatory (CGRO) do not yield the expected total fluence or angular fluxes of 20-50 keV photons from the Crab Nebula. Measurements of the attenuation effects for the aluminum plates covering the LADs indicate that the hexel structure of these plates are the cause of these discrepancies. The measured response for the Crab Nebula, the method of measuring the attenuation effects, and the resultant corrections to the LAD response matrix will be discussed.
