sComment on 'Theory of the energy spectrum of excess electrons in highly polarizable fluids'
Abstract
The calculation of the effective mass (m) of excess electrons in rare-gas fluids by Iakubov and Pogosov [Phys. Rev. B 51, 14 941 (1995)] is revisited. By carrying out exact numerical calculations using their own pseudopotentials within the framework of the same Wigner-Seitz-Bardeen theory, thereby avoiding the approximations made by these authors, we find, in contrast to their predictions, a monotonic behavior of m as a function of fluid density (n), similar to previous m(n) calculations in those systems by Plenkiewicz et al. [J. Chem. Phys. 94, 6132 (1991); Phys. Rev. A 43, 7061 (1991)].
