Some aspects of M theory on Calabi-Yau manifolds
Abstract
The duality between Calaby-Yau compactifications of M theory to five dimensions and the S1 reductions of the six-dimensional N = 1 supergravity with generalized couplings between tensor and vector multiplets is discussed. It is shown that this duality is supported only on a restricted class of Calabi-Yau threefolds and requires a special type of intersection form. A discussion of perturbative and non-perturbattive five-dimensional BSP states and phase transitions is presented. The discussion of geometrical couplings naturally leads to twelve-dimensional interaction terms.
