Development and Validation of Corona Electrostatic Field Models to Assist in Electrophotographic Hardware Designs
Abstract
Corona discharge is commonly used in electrophotography for a variety of functions employing corotrons and scorotrons. We describe a corona electrostatic field model utilized to characterize single and multi coronode DC corotrons. The charge generation phenomena is represented by a semi-empirical expression. The charge transport problem is solved using a combination of the boundary integral equation method for charge conservation, and the finite volume method for current continuity. Model calculations were verified against experimental data and excellent agreement was obtained. The model was applied to study the arcing latitude and to assist in corona hardware designs. The integration of the model into a CAD system for geometry optimization will also be addressed.
