Carrier Relaxation in the Quantum Kinetics Regime
Abstract
A study of carrier dynamics in GaAs during and just after creation by ultrashort laser pulses shows a quasi-instantaneous spread of the carriers in momentum-energy space. The experimental data demonstrate the failure of the relaxation time approximation and Boltzmann kinetics. The failure is due to the fact that the reaction of the reservoir in this regime cannot be described by Fermi's golden rule, and scattering is "incomplete".
